Held up in rear, pushed along and headway 3 out, went third 2 out, soon ridden, 3 lengths down last, stayed on, just failed (op 8/1).
Paisley Park traditionally begins each campaign in this event and his record in it now reads 12322. He was beaten a neck by Champ a year ago and got even closer this time, staying on strongly for pressure and just failing to catch the winner, to whom he was conceding 6lb. Rising 12 he may be, but there’s plenty of life in him yet and he will go to the Long Walk later this month with sound claims. He’s 1131 in that race, winning it when it was switched to Kempton last year.
