RACE 1: Australian Wagering Council Supporting 4Tracks4kids Plate 1300m
Coming Back was slow to begin. Redoubtable Heart was held up for clear running in the early part of the straight. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Runkle, B Avdulla stated that the colt travelled comfortably throughout the run, but was most disappointing in its failure to run on after shifting out to improve. A post-race veterinary examination of Runkle revealed the colt to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. Trainer Mr G Portelli advised that Runkle had pleased the stable in its lead up to today’s race and could offer no explanation in respect to today’s performance. Mr Portelli undertook to report back on the progress of Runkle subsequent to the race. The Stewards opened an inquiry into the near fore action of Coming Back, which extended out from the normal line. After interviewing trainer Mr G Ryan and rider K McEvoy, the inquiry was adjourned so that the Stewards could consider a report from Racing NSW Senior Official Veterinarian C Suann and also to review the previous race start and barrier trials of Coming Back. A post-race veterinary examination of Coming Back revealed no gait abnormality at the trot. Big Clipper was found to have bled from both nostrils subsequent to the race. Stable representative Mr M Newnham was advised that, acting under the provisions of AR53A, Big Clipper would now be barred from racing for a period of three months and must trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.

RACE 2: Perfection Landscapes Supporting A Walk 4 Nathan Plate 1300m
A veterinary examination of Twirl, which was a late scratching from Rosehill on 27 September, due to an off hind foot lameness, was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Officer and passed fit to start. Lady Moura and Twirl were slow to begin. Our Little Miracle was inclined to overrace in the early stages. Alegria was held up until near the 250m. Our Masquerade and Lady Moura were in the early part of the straight. J McDonald, rider of Pouting, explained that the filly was inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages, which restricted his riding out of Pouting over the last 50m. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Twirl, T Berry stated, after being a little slow to begin, he had to make some use of Twirl to go forward and lead, but was able to travel comfortably throughout the middle stages with a moderate tempo. He added that Twirl soon after straightening was most disappointing in its failure to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination of Twirl revealed the filly to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. Stable Mr M Newnham reported that Twirl had pleased since its set back leading up to the meeting on 27 September 2014 and stated, in his view, the filly was unsuited by having use made of it in the early stages to go forward and lead and, given the two months between runs, was a telling factor over the concluding stages. The Stewards ruled that Twirl must barrier trial to their satisfaction prior to being permitted to race again.
